Back in February, HPE announced
a deal with Swisscom where Swisscom would deploy NFV technology using HPE’s
OpenNFV solutions to offer vCPE to its business customers.
According to recent news, HPE has been unable to meet Swisscom’s NFV needs. Thus, Swisscom is
looking for an additional partner to get its NFV plans back on track.
The previous setback for HPE in the NFV area was when
Telefonica cancelled
the massive virtualization contract it had with the company. Instead, Ericsson
was selected as Telefonica’s
lead NFV partner for the UNICA project which aims to virtualize network
functions across all Telefonica’s operations.
One observation is that it appears that carrier-grade NFV might
be more difficult to implement in the real word than expected.
